Platinum-rhodium Thermocouple B Type

Description

Type S thermocouples are constructed using one wire of 90% Platinum and 10% Rhodium (the positive or "+" wire) and a second wire of 100% platinum (the negative or "-" wire). Like type R, type S thermocouples are used up to 1600 °C. In particular, type S is used as the standard of calibration for the melting point of gold (1064.43 °C). Type B thermocouples use a platinum–rhodium alloy for each conductor. One conductor contains 30% rhodium while the other conductor contains 6% rhodium. These thermocouples are suited for use at up to 1800 °C. Type B thermocouples produce the same output at 0 °C and 42 °C, limiting their use below about 50 °C.

1:The positive electrode (SP) of the S-type thermocouple wire is made of platinum rhodium alloy, which contains 10% rhodium and 90% platinum. The negative electrode (SN) is pure platinum, hence commonly known as a single platinum rhodium thermocouple. The thermocouple has a long-term operating temperature of 1300 ℃ and a short-term operating temperature of up to 1600 ℃.

2:·The positive electrode (RP) of the R-type thermocouple wire is made of platinum rhodium alloy, which contains 13% rhodium and 87% platinum. The negative electrode (RN) is pure platinum, so it is commonly known as a single platinum rhodium thermocouple. The long-term use temperature is 1300 ° C, and the short-term use temperature can reach 1600 ° C

3:The positive electrode (BP) of the B-type thermocouple wire is made of platinum rhodium alloy, which contains 30% rhodium and 70% platinum. The negative electrode (BN) is a platinum rhodium alloy, which contains 6% rhodium and 94% platinum, hence commonly known as a dual platinum rhodium thermocouple. The long-term use temperature of this thermocouple is 1600 ℃, and the short-term use temperature can reach 1800 ℃.
